On July 25, 2017, Dispatcher Sandy Varner picked up an emergency medical dispatch call on hold for what turned out to be a full arrest. The patient was in a small mobile home and had collapsed in the restricted space of the hallway. Sandy worked diligently with the reporting party to get the patient out of the trailer where she was able to position the patient for CPR. She gave Compression instructions for about one minute as the first La Honda Fire crew was arriving. Thirty minutes into the call, fire reported that the patient had pulses and would be transported by Lifeflight to Stanford.
Several months later, a random conversation with Chief Delay gleaned the information that the patient was coming home from the skilled nursing facility he had been at for months.
Sandy, congratulations on being an integral part in the team that saved this mans life.
